- High-end dynamic shopping cart
A static shopping cart is ideal for a start up business with only a few products or services, particularly if they rarely change and don't need to be updated too often
If you have a high number of products requiring frequent updating, then a dynamic shopping cart is highly recommended. This will enable you to add, change, delete and update your products at any time 24/7, enabling you to keep your website fresh and up-to-date.
If you want to have high-end features like customer accounts, stock control and statistics, then a high-end dynamic shopping cart will meet your needs.

Static v Dynamic |
The primary difference between Static and Dynamic shopping carts is that one is semi-permanent requiring updating by the web designer, whilst the other can normally be updated by the owner at any time 24/7.
Dynamic Shopping Carts
Dynamic shopping carts are now the most popular and dominant type of ecommerce shopping facilities on the internet. Virtually every business engaged in online sales these days is using a dynamic shopping cart.
Why? Because an online database is used to store the product details and the details can be easily changed at any time 24/7 by the site owner - not the web designer!
This is extremely powerful!
It gives the site owner full control over the site's content, including:
- Prices
- Discounts
- Special offers
- Product descriptions
- Adding new products
- Deleting old products
- Number of products on display
- Keeping site up-to-date & fresh
In addition, many dynamic shopping carts also have a number of attractive features like customer accounts, stock control, wish lists and newsletters, all of which can combine to give their customers a greater online shopping experience - and hopefull result in repeat sales in the future.
Static Shopping Cart
A static shopping cart means that the products or product listing pages are displayed on semi-permanent "fixed" pages. This means that unlike a dynamic shopping cart, the pages and hence the products themselves, can normally only be updated by the web designer, not the owner.
A static shopping cart is therefore ideally suited for products or services which are both limited in number and rarely need changing or updating. For a business with 30 products or less, a static shopping cart is probably the most cost effective solution. When products or prices do need changing, a nominal fee will be charged for the service.
Static carts also tend to be low on the type of features which are available on dynamic carts (see above), as most of the features available to dynamic carts require a database to work correctly.
